User Experience: Product Thinking

What do you think when you think “User Experience”?  For me, I think of a simple and easy to use interaction with a product.  So, what’s the most important? The features that make the product easy to use or the product itself that solves a problem for the user?  If you think the latter, then you are using product thinking.  So, why is this important to user experience?

The Next Revolution in AI: How it Impacts You

We’ve talked a little about how the AI in our existing devices works and how it needs to improve moving forward in order to better assist us.  What is the next big move in AI though?  Well, many think it will be an artificial intelligence living right in your ear.  In fact, it seems that in-ear assistants similar to the one featured in the movie Her aren't science fiction at all; but rather an imminent reality.  There are obviously a million different implications if this fully comes to fruition.  But, specifically, what does this mean to you as a business person? How will this impact your working world?

Personality is the New UX

Have you heard of “conversationalist interfaces” yet? They are interfaces that use a text message like window so users can actually ask for what they want.  Think Siri.  When your interface is actually connecting with users, you want to provide a user experience to accompany that.  Users aren’t looking to talk to a robot.  When you’re showing a very few short lines of text at a time, you have to find a way to incorporate a positive user experience for the user.

Interstitial Ads: Terrible User Experience and Great Attention Grabbers

I’m sure we’ve all been there.  We click over to a website to browse, shop, or watch a video and BAM –a full page in-your-face ad takes over the screen.  For the most part, we click the X to close the ad and we move on with our lives.  If we’re on a mobile device, this process may be a touch trickier and a little more annoying if that X is just out of reach.  These are interstitial ads and they are pretty big right now.

How Making the Switch to an iPhone Will Change Your Life

Well, it’s official.  I’m an Apple convert.  Recently, my last phone bit the dust (kind of literally) so I purchased an iPhone 6.  My first iPhone.  I have to say, it is kind of a game changer.  Sure, I’ll look back and remember fondly the times that I wanted to throw my previous phone against the wall.  And yes, I will have to think of new things to do to fill the time I used to spend restarting my phone regularly.  Every five minutes.  Of my life.  But I think I can persevere, and I hope to come out the other side.  So, what is it that makes my iPhone so great?  Well, it’s hard to say because my user experience has been so absolutely seamless.

Apple iWatch: The Lovers and The Haters

Now that the Apple Watch is out and about in consumer's hands, the crowds have divided.  It's the lovers of the watch vs the haters of the watch.  As with any huge new innovative project by Apple, there is bound to be big feedback (both positive and negative).  But, if the product is a game changer, then it doesn't need to be perfect in it's first release.  Right?  It can be a little rough around the edges while the kinks are worked out.  We are talking about a version one product here.  What do people think though?  What have people's user experiences been with the Apple Watch?  We took a closer look into the people that love it vs the people that brought it back.

UX: Engaging with a Consultant

We've been talking the last few weeks about user experience annoyances, turn offs, and bad practices that will drive customers away from using your product, program, website, etc.  The key here is that when you are dealing with any project that involves UX -it can benefit your project immensely to have an outside consultant.  Most people think that reaching out to a consultant is a last ditch effort, when that's not the case at all.

Consultants: The Importance of Being an Expert

As a consultant, you’ll run into situations nearly daily where you are meeting new people who want to hear about what you do. I get questions regularly on topics that I consult on. Many times these conversations come up on the spot and out of a normal business environment.  So, what do you do when you’re approached, totally unprepared, and you have to talk about your business out of the blue? Do you know your business well enough that you can stop whatever you’re doing and come up with an intelligent informed conversation? As a consultant, this is a must.
