Software and Web Design: Put Yourself in Your Customer's Customer's Place

Recently, we had a client come to us in trouble.  Long story short, this was a customer who had come to us previously asking us to build her a website.  We talked over what she wanted, drummed up a proposal, and sent it over to her.  Great, fine, totally on board.  However, then she started talking to another company who promised to do the same job for much cheaper.  She went with them, the site was designed and up and running, and she was not happy with it.  She came back to us needing help.

New Approach to the New Year

After taking a look back through our 2014 year in review: here we discovered something interesting... We got a little lost in technology this year.  Who hasn't?  When we look back over our most popular articles of all time, we see common themes.  SDLC, custom solutions, consulting, DNN, etc.  All things we DO.  All things we LOVE TO DO.  So, why all the tech articles?  We'll, they're so nice and new and shiny.  Everyone is talking about them.  However, the readers have spoken and it's time for us to get back on track

Wearable Tech: Intel and Opening Ceremony are Making a Holiday Push

With only a few shopping weeks left this holiday season, we're seeing wearable tech all over the news.  We've had several articles now on wearable tech and how, if they want to make it, they need to be more practical about it.  For instance, wearable watches, considering not everyone even wears one anymore -they should probably make sure that the watches they are making are appealing to people as something they would want to wear.  That's the thing about "wearable".  People are wearing this piece on their bodies.  It has to be a style that they would actually choose to wear for themselves.  Along those lines we have Barneys New York who is rolling out exclusive Intel Smart bracelets designed by Opening Ceremony in December.

How Not Charging for Services Can Help Grow Your Business

As business owners, one of our main goals is to make money -right?  Sure, we love making connections and many of us enjoy the work that we do, but a nice conversation isn't going to put gas in the car or food on the table.  Or is it?  I give away a lot of free advice.  Really, I do.  I spend hours with people I know or who I've just met and I give them tips and tricks to help get their businesses moving on social media platforms.  I listen to their issues and help tailor strategies for them to use.  I share my experiences with social media.  I explain the various platforms and the benefits of using them.  I talk about Facebook contests and hashtags on Twitter.  I spread valuable and reliable advice around so that people can do these things for themselves.  If you know anything about our company, you know that we offer these services.  We sell these ideas.  Social media management/consulting is a big piece of our company.  So, what do we get out of having these talks and giving this advice away for free?

Consultants: The Importance of Being an Expert

As a consultant, you’ll run into situations nearly daily where you are meeting new people who want to hear about what you do. I get questions regularly on topics that I consult on. Many times these conversations come up on the spot and out of a normal business environment.  So, what do you do when you’re approached, totally unprepared, and you have to talk about your business out of the blue? Do you know your business well enough that you can stop whatever you’re doing and come up with an intelligent informed conversation? As a consultant, this is a must.
