Marketing for Startups

If you build it they will come... Hopefully.  There are so many start ups right now on and off the internet.  Now that you've developed this great company, how are you going to get the word out to potential clients and customers?  Being a start up, you probably don't have a ton of money to throw at the marketing side of your business.  What's cheap and relatively painless? Social media! But -where to start?  And -where do you get the most bang for your buck?

Types of Twitter Contests

For the past few weeks I've been diving in deeper to see what Twitter contests are all about.  Having never run a Twitter contest yet myself, I wanted to dig in and see the specific types of contests that people are successfully running.

Generating Leads with LinkedIn Groups

I'm curious to know who out there is currently using LinkedIn groups to generate leads?  I've been seeing a lot of buzz the past few months about this.  Everyone is talking about using personal connections on LinkedIn to drum up real leads.  Creating groups tailored to different individuals and their needs/interests and then catering to those individual groups seems to be going a long way to translating into dollars and cents.

Net Neutrality Set to Become Most-Discussed Issue in FCC History
We introduced you to the net neutrality debate back in May. Well, now that the deadline for public comments is coming to a close we’ve realized that the people aren’t just speaking –they’re yelling loud and clear. The FCC has received more than 677,000 comments on its proposed rules for how broadband providers can treat content traveling over their networks and into your homes. The majority of comments make it pretty clear that the public isn’t exactly pleased with FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler's net-neutrality proposal.

#TwitterContest

After a few attempts at Facebook contests (both successes and failures), I figured it might be a nice change of pace to shift the focus onto Twitter contests for a bit.  I'm curious -who out there has actually started a Twitter contest?  The premise seems pretty simple: Choose a prize for followers to compete for, use a hashtag unique to you and your contest, use a hashtag that people will search for, and incorporate your handle for people to follow.

What's Next?

As of now, we have two Facebook contests under our belt.  Both have come with their share of pains and both have taught us a few lessons to use moving forward.  The question now is - what's next?

Improving Company Culture by Spreading Ownership
We read constantly about the importance of having a great company culture, but how exactly are we supposed to accomplish this? I think one very important factor in improving the culture of an organization is by spreading a feeling of ownership among its employees.

iBeacon Technology is Expanding
When we last checked in on iBeacon technology, we were watching it unveil on the retail front and making predictions about where the technology would possibly expand to. Well, some exciting things have been happening on the iBeacon front. We’re starting to see the iBeacon technology pop up in all sorts of different locations and it’s pretty interesting to see the wide range of uses that businesses have found within the technology.
