What I've Learned About Running a Facebook Contest That Requires Participation

So, our latest Facebook contest has wrapped.  Winners have been chosen, newsletter has been renamed, prizes have been sent out.  So I'd like to take a minute and reflect back on what I've learned about this specific kind of Facebook contest.

Our Contest Winners!

We have chosen the winners of our contest and a new name for our newsletter!  The new name for our newsletter is “The Tech Talk”.  Allyson Cook of Clayton, NC is our grand prize winner of the $100 Visa Gift Card giveaway for renaming the newsletter. We had a few similar entries to the grand prize winner, but only one entry of “The Tech Talk”.  Our randomly selected winner of our $50 Visa Gift Card giveaway is Maria Gentry of Asheville, NC.

Using Snapchat for Marketing

Most of us know how Snapchat works at this point, right? It’s a mobile app that allows its users to send photo and video messages that automatically delete themselves 1-10 seconds after being viewed.  That is the general premise.  From a marketing standpoint, is it possible for Snapchat to be a beneficial marketing tool for your business?  Well, as we’re finding out, the answer is yes.

WWDC 2014 Snapshot
The WWDC 2014 has wrapped up and we’ve all had a little time to digest the information that Apple has thrown our way. There was a lot of speculation about what Apple would be unveiling at this conference –we had our own guesses: here. Now that the conference is over and done with –we thought we’d look back and take a minute to share a few points that stood out to us and what we thought about them.

Which Social Networks are Most Important?

Right now, J&S Tech Designs is active on four social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn.  I'd like to get some feedback and see which networks other businesses are on and how they're utilizing those other networks for their company.  There is tons of information out there right now for marketing on these social networks.  There are so many new networks popping up all the time though -how does your business stay relevant?

What’s Happening with Wearable Tech?
Lately, it’s looking more and more like our predictions about wearable tech back in March were true. Wearable technology is having a hard time catching on with mainstream consumers. Why? People want wearable tech to resemble a piece they would actually choose to pay for and wear (like another piece of jewelry). With such high price tags, it’s no wonder that the mainstream consumer isn’t jumping on the bandwagon for a piece of “jewelry” that they’d rather not be seen in.

Boosting Engagement: Not What I'd Call a Homerun

Well, it's been a long few weeks running this last Facebook contest and trying to boost engagement on our Facebook page.  And by "a long few weeks" I mean "equivalent to pulling teeth".  My whole goal was to get people talking and instead I've received a lot of radio silence.  I will say that there have been a few occasional extra 'likes' here or there and a random comment thrown in once a week or so, but that's about it.
