User Experience: Product Thinking

What do you think when you think “User Experience”?  For me, I think of a simple and easy to use interaction with a product.  So, what’s the most important? The features that make the product easy to use or the product itself that solves a problem for the user?  If you think the latter, then you are using product thinking.  So, why is this important to user experience?

Social Media: Use an Essay Format

By now, the masses are definitely educated in at least a little social media 101.  As a business, you’ve probably set up an account on all the major platforms.  Your Facebook business page is fleshed out, your Twitter business page is following all the right people, and so on.  But, are you really promoting your content the way it needs to be promoted?

Do Not Mix Business with Personal: 4 Steps to Keeping Transactions Separate

As the wife of a very successful entrepreneur, I felt compelled to write this blog post.

Last Sunday, my husband and I took the kids to the local movie theater to watch Zootopia (fantastic kids movie by the way). When we get to the ticket booth and are ready to pay, my husband pulls out his business credit card.

Product Owner vs Product Manager

Being a product owner and a product manager are two very different things.  What are the responsibilities that differentiate them? Well, there are several. And what are the results when one is thrust into the role of another? It varies, but there are a few classic issues we see.

Don’t be Socially Awkward on Social Media

Have you ever had some sort of networking event phobia? You know you need to be there, you know networking is beneficial to your business, and yet you dread the thought of walking up to a person and speaking to them.  You know – actually networking.  Heaven forbid you actually have to have a conversation with a person.  Unfortunately, many people behave just as socially awkward on social media.

How to be a Great Product Owner

The job of a product owner is no walk in the park. People assume that being a product owner consists of listening to customers and then doing what the customers ask of them.  There is so much more to it than that.  If you’re building a new product, you had better innovate and think of things that they didn’t even know they needed.  This is one of the things that separates good product owners from great ones. So, what are some of the key characteristics of a great product owner? I’ll share with you.

Reaction to Facebook Reactions

For years now, people have been begging Facebook for the capability to react beyond a ‘like’.  Think of all the instances that people post status updates on Facebook.  These are not all happy posts. If someone has a family member pass away, and they write a heartfelt tribute to the person, do you like it?  It was a nice sentiment, but someone has still passed away. Many people suggested a ‘dislike’ button.  That idea was vetoed by Facebook for the possible negative uses of the function. So, what did they decide to do instead? Well, they did expand the capabilities of the ‘like’ button by launching ‘reactions’.

Tesla Model 3 – Will Supply Meet Demand?

It’s been over a week since Tesla Motors unveiled its $35,000 Model 3 electric car.  As of now, prospective owners have now put in orders for more than 325,000 cars.  This was a much larger response than even CEO Elon Musk and Tesla expected.  Musk sent out a tweet relaying that no one at Tesla thought the orders would be that high and that the response was two to four times higher than they expected it to be. This translates into a huge profit in sales –assuming supply can meet demand.

Productivity Apps to Help Consultants

Consultants need to be the most productive people in the room.  Consider this: when you’re hired on as a consultant, you’re being hired to do a very specific job.  Maybe you are being pulled in to finish a project that no one else has been able to get done, maybe you’re being brought on to help manage a team or a division, or maybe you’re there because you have a specific set of skills that that company needs.  Either way –time is money.  Also, many consultants are working on multiple projects, jobs, or positions at once. Because of this, finding ways to be increasingly more productive are always a must.

Agile Development is Dead: A Hybrid is Born

Word is that Agile Development is dead.  People have been saying this for quite some time now and I have to say –I agree.  Agile Development, in its purest form that is, is dead.  It did have a long and productive life. Because of this, I think it’s necessary to reflect back on Agile Development and realize that, even though its purest form is dead, there is room for evolution.
