Crowdfunding: A Huge Success

Crowdfunding. Ideas that may have once seemed like a pipe dream are becoming more and more of a reality with crowdfunding sites such as Kickstarter, Fundable and Indiegogo. These companies are responsible for some of the biggest and most popular (not to mention coolest) projects coming out right now and in the past few years. Literally, if someone can dream up a project that gets people interested –their dreams can become a reality. These sites have moved “crowdfunding” from a trendy buzzword to a mainstream fundraising model. They have created a way to get projects in front of people who probably never would have seen them and given those people the opportunity to make the ideas a reality.

Running a Facebook Contest to Boost Engagement

At the end of this week we are kicking off another Facebook contest.  This will be number two for us and this one has a different spin.  Our first contest was our trial run, I was a little worried at first (you can read back herehere, and here on that) because it was slow going to get people to sign up.  We were giving away money and no one was biting.  We finally got things turned around though and ended up with a really successful contest.  This time we have a different end goal in mind -increased engagement on our page.

What We Want to See at WWDC 2014
On the heels of Apple’s Earth Day campaign, we’re counting down the last few weeks until June’s World Wide Developer’s Conference 2014 (WWDC 2014). The event will take place at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco June 2nd-6th and we’re left to speculate on what the main focus of the event will be and what possible announcements Apple will publicize.

Dark Posts - How Not to Fail

Well folks, a few weeks ago we filled you in on Using Dark Posts (Unpublished Posts) in Your Advertising.  Afterwards, I went ahead and tried out said post.  Let me start by saying that I fully intend to do another dark post later this week.  I also fully intend for this next dark post to be much more successful than the first.  Here's why: the first post failed.

Google vs. Facebook: The Race for Airborne Internet is On
We’ve filled you in on Google’s Project Loon: herehere, and here (project designed to solve the problem of limited internet access across the globe) and have been checking in the past few months for updates on this awesome project. Meanwhile, Google isn’t the only one interested in jumping into the airborne internet race. The question is, who are the players? And who will win?

Wireless Mesh Networking: This is Going to be Huge
Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a technology that could enable users to connect with each other without an Internet connection AND also when they are far outside of both WiFi and Bluetooth range from each other? Well, apparently we have that technology –called wireless mess networking. It’s not just some big idea anymore either as Apple has mainstreamed it into iOS7. Like I said before, this is going to be huge.

Using Dark Posts (Unpublished Posts) in Your Advertising
If you’re looking to catch up with some of the big brands when it comes to advertising on Facebook, this is your chance. The posts are “dark posts” or “unpublished posts” because they will not appear on your timeline but rather they show up in the newsfeed and appear as a “sponsored” piece of content. What’s so great about these posts? You can target any group you’d like. Whether it is a specific demographic of your current followers or a new target group like “small business owners” and boom –your post shows up right in their newsfeed as though you’re just another one of their friends sharing a status or photo.

Facebook Contest - Up and Running

We've officially launched our second Facebook contest.  The focus is to rename our newsletter (formerly 'Technology Business Review").  We're letting our followers hold the reigns a bit and send us suggestions for a new name.  Our last contest was extremely successful, over 2000 entries, so we're waiting to see how this one measures up.

Catching Up with Elon Musk

We’ve covered a few Elon Musk stories for you in the past –both about the Hyperloop and also the Tesla fires from a few months ago.  Musk, entrepreneur and co-founder of PayPal and Tesla, is certainly not one to stay out of the headlines for very long and he’s been making quite a few lately so we thought we’d stop in and share what he’s been up to for the past month or so.
