Social Media Boot Camp Take 2
Last week, I brought you the details on the first half of my day at the SMX West Expo’s Social Media Marketing Boot Camp. I’m back today to give you a wrap up of the second half of the day. The day was jam packed with valuable information on social media marketing techniques, paid advertising, and getting your social media conversations to translate into leads.

Social Media Boot Camp Take 1
Recently, I attended the SMX West Expo’s Social Media Marketing Boot Camp. It was an all day event with classes on a whole range of social media marketing techniques. The main focus was on Facebook and Twitter, but we did talk some about LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google+, etc. I’d like to share a few main points with all of you. The classes were fashioned towards the businesses that are looking to take their social media presence to the next level. This boot camp was geared towards those who have started or are looking to start using paid advertising, those who want to translate social media conversation into leads, and those who are beginners and are looking to learn more than just the basics.

What Happens When Your Facebook Contest Ends?

Now that our Facebook contest has officially closed, the winners have been awarded, and we’ve all gone back to our regularly scheduled lives –I wanted to post an update about what’s happened since then. My big goals for this contest were to 1) get more subscribers to our weekly newsletter and 2) bump up engagement on our Facebook page. So let me just share what I’ve found…

User Beware: Free Images Aren’t Necessarily Free
We use images so much in our online work. People are so visual now and we are catering to our customer base. The problem is, when sorting through graphics for online use and marketing, we get into some gray area. Those of us who are digging up multiple photos every day for blog posts, funny Facebook and Twitter graphics to share, Slideshares, images for websites and presentations, etc. need to be careful how we are finding and sharing those images. Believe it or not, it’s not just a free for all out there.

Wearable Technology Trends – Not What I’d Call Practical
The ideas surrounding these new wearable technologies are brilliant and revolutionary; no doubt about that. But are they practical? Will they catch on mainstream? I’m having a hard time jumping up and down with a resounding, “Yes!” I’m not saying it’s impossible. I’m saying that wearable tech is only going to catch on mainstream if it’s practical, attractive, and stylish to wear. We’re not going to strap a brick to the side of our heads and walk around town. Well, some people might, but I’m talking about “mainstream” right now…

Qplay: TiVo's Founders Have Created New Way to Watch TV

I was looking for a highly interactive new application that would seriously boost entertainment pleasure, and it looks like I may be getting what I was looking for. If you were following along here, I talked about my wish for a Website DVR –an application with the ability to record shows directly from different websites with no wait time, no buffering, and (in a perfect world) with no internet necessary.

How to Get People to Sign Up for Your Facebook Contest

Hint, it's not banging your head against the wall... Trust me -I tried that. After nearly two weeks of trying everything under the sun to give away $100, I finally found something that worked. And, being the kind individual that I am, I decided to share with all of you. By the way, thanks for all your great comments and feedback (cough, cough).
